With more than 100 construction projects under way, HighForce needed new capability to track projects real time. MYOB with the BI4Cloud business intelligence add-on had the answer.
The Queensland-based infrastructure and engineering firm builds mobile towers and installations right around Australia. Yes, even way out in the bush. And thanks to MYOB and BI4Cloud they now have an add-on solution to assist.
While there is high demand for digital coverage and connectivity, building it is a demanding task. HighForce can’t let anything slide.
Fortunately, because HighForce used MYOB, there was an add-on ready and available that would efficiently and effectively integrate with its existing systems.
MYOB and BI4Cloud delivered HighForce:
- an estimated $100,000 through not having to implement a new system
- significant drops in operational risk
- automated live tracking and reporting on projects
- 10 weeks per year decrease in admin load for the management team.
The task of rolling out this new capability within the digital environment of Australia’s favourite accounting application was now left in the hands of the executive team:
Here’s how they did it.
BI4Cloud and Highforce – making it happen
HighForce senior management realised they needed an value-add Commercial Financial Controller.
That’s when they found Abbott: a top-flight executive who, along with a long career in corporate accounting, had experience directing stand-alone project management systems and comprehensive reporting frameworks.
On stepping into the role, Abbott found the existing reporting system essentially meant HighForce could only view jobs after they had been completed.
“The company was, in essence, lacking transparency and control, when it came to project reporting” Abbott says.
At first she thought MYOB didn’t offer the necessary transparency. Creating reports was time-consuming, while the volume of manual data entry meant human error was inevitable.
“I needed a solution to run cost reports and also reports on committed costs and report-to-budget.”
Enter MYOB add-on BI4Cloud. The name says it all: the add-on is a cloud-based business intelligence tool that helps get the right information to the right people at the right time.
The result: “What would have taken me a day is now done at the click of a button.”
Tracking true
As an add-on built to work with MYOB, implementing BI4Cloud was a relatively simple change-management task. It was adopted within a few days, with none of the disruption and retraining required with a whole new ERP.
“BI4Cloud immediately gave me greater controls and transparency. Suddenly, I could run each project manager’s reporting,” Abbott says.
“I can review their costs-to-complete and the anticipated margins. I can create my WIP journals.”
The add-on also means HighForce’s project managers can log in at any point through the job and see how they are tracking.
Building the benefits
With this new wellspring of detailed, live, in-progress data and reporting, project management became far more responsive, agile and informed.
Schedules became more reliable. Monitoring became more accurate. Operational risk plunged.
The benefits spread further. Because the add-on was tracking the right data in a responsive and automated way, Abbott saved an estimated 32 hours per month in preparing financial and project reports. In dollar terms, Abbott suggests BI4Cloud saved HighForce up to $100,000 through avoiding the cost of implementing a whole new ERP.
Think about the long-term HR value of a senior executive removing nearly 10 week’s worth of admin load from each year’s work.
In dollar terms, Abbott suggests BI4Cloud saved HighForce up to $100,000 through avoiding the cost of implementing a whole new ERP.
“Overall, MYOB and BI4Cloud have not only saved us significantly in money and time each month, but, most importantly, they have reduced our risk as a business.
“MYOB and BI4Cloud added significant value to our business.”
